A research shown by the National
Bureau of Statistics has it that the rate of unemployment in Nigeria stood at
19.7% in 2010, 21.1% in 2011, and 23.9% in 2012. With respect to age group, the
research has it that 41.6% of youths between the ages of 15-24 years in Nigeria
are unemployed. Equally, the Federal government of Nigeria recently
acknowledged that about 80% of Nigerian youths are unemployed and 10%
underemployed.
Records from the National
populations commission (2001) indicated that youth under the age of 30
constitutes over half of the approximately 160 million of Nigerians.
The implication of the above is
that in another one or two decades most of today’s youth will be parents and
with little or no adequate skill in a fast emerging competitive global economy,
It is doubtful how they can propel the change needed for development.
An encouraging research has it that
40% of the world resources are in Africa and Africa is been peopled by 10% of
the world’s population. This infers that 90% of the world’s population holds
60% of the world’s resources/opportunities. Nigeria, been tagged the giant of
Africa is said to be endowed with the highest level of opportunities /resources
in Africa.
A member of the Speakpreneur
faculty at a recent conference in West Africa with other delegates on ‘The
Resolutions to the problems of the Region’ was stunned to hear one of the
keynote speakers saying that ‘to become successful in the African market, one
needs access to the Nigerian market because Nigerians will buy anything’. The
painful reality of this is that Nigerian youths are not selling anything
because they lack the skills and techniques to leverage on today’s
opportunities and are living in the opportunities of the past.
It is to this end that the Speakpreneur
empowerment conference 2.0 is slated to empower young minds with the techniques
needed in locating today’s opportunities.
THE CONFERENCE WOULD BE HOLDING ON THE 3RD OF MAY AND ACCOMMODATING 70 PARTICIPANTS ONLY. TO REGISTER, click on; https://docs.google.com/forms/d/18TuNulKI-Ch7CRKUyG5AIBKdxMzAAx4WD5ZNm7ILQMc/viewform#start=invite
